The Academy spent the last few days showing us around Rome, since many of the museums were free of charge this week. Below is a skeletal review of where we visited:
Ara Pacis with an illuminating explanation by one of the Academy’s teachers.
Trek over to picture gallery in Trastevere.
Castel Sant’ Angelo with stunning views from its walls.
Visit to Trajan’s market and the Capitoline Museum, which houses the bronze statue of the she-wolf that fed Romulus and Remus.
Visit to the National Museum of Rome, which includes Diocletian’s Roman Baths. Highlights from this trip: statue of Augustus as Pontifex Maximus and an exhibit on Roman currency throughout the ages.
