This summer I’ve been reading Karen Kelsky’s The Professor Is In: The Essential Guide To Turning Your Ph.D. Into a Job. Wow! I wish this book had been around when I was a starry-eyed undergraduate, considering graduate school and an academic career. Some of my friends are probably already tired of my talking about it! Kelsky gives a lucid assessment of the current state of academia and covers a wide range of topics for meeting the challenges of the job market. The Professor Is In would be useful even to seasoned scholars, especially those advising the next generation of professors.
